Sharrah's Generation 8
DOB: 8-27-06

Sire: Near Ch. Sharrah's Dhrughatos
Dam: Ch. Sharrah’s Nharaka

2 bitches, 3 dogs (3 B/T; 2 Reds)
Again, all tan is exceptionally red, as with the original English imports from the 50's & 60's.

Bridging the Gap of Time… August, 2006

At age 11, Ch. Ahraka whelped 2 bitches (in 1997), Tephrah and Tharaka. As fate dictated Tharaka had her 1st season at 5 ˝ (2001). With a sliver of opportunity to resurrect my line, I searched for a stud. Sharrah's philosophy: Line breed twice and then outcross once. After being away from Afghans for 8 years, I searched on phenotype and found Ch. Suraj Ralph Lauren (an outcross of an outcross). This presented challenges. Still, gene pool probability tilted the outcross equation in my favor.

From that Ch. Lauren/Tharaka breeding came Ch. Khalin, Ch. Sabukuh, and Ch. Nharaka (litter of 4). To solidify my gene pool, a breeder-judge friend suggested in-breeding a son x mother (yes, Tharaka). This produced 3 boys with near Chs. Dhru and Mhaxx. With no bitches, I tried again with the other son, Ch. Sabukuh x Tharaka. She had 2 boys, Zhimi and Thuki. Still, no girls.

In a final attempt to continue my line, I bred near Ch. Dhrughatos x Ch. Nharaka (nephew x aunt). It produced 2 bitches, 3 dogs. Finally, 2 girls! The 3 b/ts are highly marked like Dhru. This deep red is a throwback of English imports from the 50's and 60's, the TRUE black and tans. This was probably from Wally Pede's Ch. Alibaba of Scheherezade.

Establishing and keeping a line takes time, commitment, and perseverance. These days if 1 or 2 dogs share a pedigree, even 3-4 generations back, it's frequently deemed a line breeding. A repeated kennel name is not necessarily indicative of a line and/or line breeding, and certainly not a gene pool. Names are not gene pools.

Years back, when purchasing an Afghan, one usually gained a lineage. Over the decades, with the diluation of pedigrees, the art of true breeding is almost lost. One who breeds is not necessarily a breeder. Similarily, a winning dog is small portion of the breeding equation, it does not make one a breeder. When breeding, it's to an entire litter, not the big winner.

Previously, Sharrah bred 1 litter every 3-5 years. We maintain high standards of excellence by not catering to the public, or the trendy flavor-of-the-day dog. We stay the course. After 35+ years, and with what may be our last litter, we start Generation #8 with:

12 crosses to Ch. Shangrila Pharaoh Kauravya, Sharrah's foundation dog.
12 crosses to Ch. Gandharra
24 direct crosses to full litter sister Ch. Uvasa & Ch. Gandharra
84 dogs linked to Ch. Gandharra's genepool
32 crosses to Ch. Akaba's Royal Gold
24 crosses to Ch. Sasha of Scheherezade
8 crosses to Ch. Alibaba of Scheherezade (Sire and dam side of Ch. Kauravya and sire and cam side of Mirage)
8 crosses to Ch. Kabik's the Challenger (Pepsi)
8 crosses to Ch. Fox Run's Phoenix (Cherry)
2 crosses to Ch. Suraj Ralph Lauren
and....... 60 crosses to Ch. Shirkhan of Grandeur
